During our weekly meeting this past week we jokingly commiserated that it appears we are beginning the exit from our fourth recession. That was a revelation of our age and experience. Experience has taught us that the winners coming out of recessions are not just the survivors who have learned something but most importantly those who remember.

Jay Abraham www.abraham.com ends his new book “The Sticking Point Solution” by saying “do something— anything! Right now!” His premise is any economic downturn is also an opportunity and that new mindsets and strategies are called for. Doing nothing is not a solution. We remember and agree!

  1. Reach out to your competitors today and see how they are doing? It is highly probable much has changed for them in the last 12 months. Explore: alliances, joint marketing, and mergers. The air is ripe for consolidation right now. There is no risk to learning more about your competitors! It just takes initiative and guts to pick up the phone.
  2. Call those advertisers who have been courting your business hard over recent months. There are discounts to be had in this environment because chances are your competitors have pulled back. Prospects reviewing advertising today are looking for a change. Make it you!
